Labor Department Launches Grant Initiative for Incarceration-to-Employment Program

$25 million in funding will support training and employment to reduce recidivism.

The U.S. Department of Labor recently announced at least $25 million in grants under the Pathway Home initiative to support job training and reentry services for incarcerated individuals. Administered by the Employment and Training Administration, the program will fund roughly 12 projects that plan to provide skills-based training, legal assistance, and counseling during incarceration and immediately after release. The initiatives are designed to address the gap between release and workforce reentry, improving employment outcomes and reducing recidivism rates.

The grants, authorized under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), will support partnerships with employers, Registered Apprenticeships, and occupational training programs leading to industry-recognized credentials. Participants will receive support to overcome barriers to employment, such as foundational skills development and job search strategies, supporting a smoother transition into the workforce and long-term economic stability.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For President-elect Trump’s nominee for Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer as she prepares for confirmation hearings.
  • For U.S. labor officials to be discerning as they seek to bridge the gap between incarceration and employment to reduce recidivism.
